I played football against you (unsuccessfully) when we where kids. Apart from knowing your face and you kicking lumps out of me, I never really knew you.
Then in September 2010 I was recovering after being shot in camp bastion hospital, Afghanistan. You walked into the room and spotted me... you came straight over to me and said "Byrnie lad what the fuck are you doing here?" with a big smile on your face. A bit shocked after not seeing a face from home for a while, I didn't say anything. You said "mate, can I get you anything?" I said "I'm waiting for a phone to call home." You said nothing and returned 2 minutes later with a phone...
Ever since that day when we have bumped into each other, whether it was watching Jim and our Josh at Greenleas or somewhere else - you always ask me if I was OK.
This was the type man you was, you looked out for anyone that came into your path. I wish I could of returned the favour...
RIP Brother x
